So after experiencing some issues with my iPhone, mostly with maps not working 100% right on zoom and daily UI hanging on my hacked iPhone i decided to restore and start from scratch. Its my own fault really i just put everything i could on and wanted to see it all and i got some instability from it, frankly i expected it. But i did my restore and upgraded to 1.1.1. I figured they would find a way to hack it fast enough and i would have my apps back that i have grown to love like my NES emulator, SSH Server, etc etc. But as time went on the hack didnt come and so after reading this morning that the new encryption that apple used on the phone is gonna be real tough to break, i set out to put my phone back to 1.0.2 or die trying.
Now i had tried this a few times to the point of utter frustration. I have gone through the http://www.modmyiphone.com/ forums, i have goen through the iPhone Dev Team wiki ( google it ) and tried everything for about a week, which all ended in me just restoring to 1.1.1. But i have a hard head and a stubborn mind when i really want something, so this morning i got myself a cup of coffee after having a un-expected ability to take off work and set to it. Surprisingly i got it first time this try and am now back on 1.0.2 and fully hacked with NES + goodness and here is my journey presented to you in hopes that your head ache will be less then mine. I in no way accept credit for any of this, im literally standing on the shoulders of giants on this, so props to the real hackers out there, i humbly thank you and nod my head in deep respect. Remember this is at YOUR own risk, none of this is 100% safe, so i tell you now your basically on your own, which is half the fun, no ? ;)
Ok, im just gonna go through the steps here 1 - x.
1. First thing you wanna do is watch this Video. This video is the only one out there of all the forums posts that actually worked for me. I think the visual presentation of this is important cause one of the biggest things was knowing how long to hold the buttons down. Just a second too long and it misses your window and sets off a different recovery mode or something. >Video< . Now this is NOT for a iPhone that you hacked and used on another network, this is only if you put apps on. If you used another carriers sim your out of luck with this set of instructions, but fear not Gizmodo has a path for you to follow. Also, i am not using iNdependence in this method, im using AppTapp which ill describe below.
2. First thing i did was Hold down the sleep and home button. Count to ten exactlly and release the sleep button while the screen is still dark. If it boots up with a connect to itunes icon in blue and white showing a cable connecting to a itunes icon, you held it too long so reboot again. Im not sure if you have to start over and restore then do this process again, but if you can just disconnect the cable and boot up the phone, im going to say no.
3. After succesfully completing process 2. and getting a blank screen like in the video, open itunes and you will get a " iphone is in recovery mode " message. Click ok and hit shift ( winows ) or alt/option ( mac ) while you click restore. Navigate to your itunes folder (mac - /library/itunes/iPhone Software Updates/) (Windows - C:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates and look for the iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw file. If you need to you can download it off the net from Here .
This will initiate the restore process but for me it stopped with a error at the end which is normal from all i have read.
4. Download and run AppTapp which you can get at http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/ . I ran it once and it gave a error, i rebooted and ran again and it worked. I have read some places that this isnt uncommon and is fine. After you jailbreak ( i.e. run AppTapp ) run it again to install the Installer.app on your phone and your set. Welcome back to the real world Neo, enjoy your freedom.
I would like to thank...
